Minimum space requirements for your bathroom
When remodeling your bathroom, make sure to put "spacing" as one of your top prioroties. A few inches really does make a difference between feeling cramped or comfortable in your bathroom.
The minimum spacing guidelines given in this article have been set by the kitchen and bathroom Association. I personally feel though that you should always be a little above the minimum when designing your bathroom. However, don't go overboard! You don't want your bathroom to feel like a cathederal!
So let's get started:
The shower stall:
- the minimum reservation space for a shower stall should be at least 34 is inches square.
- Allow at least a minimum of 30 inches of clearance space in front of the shower stall.
- The height of the shower head depends on the height of the person using it. A 5'10" person will have a shower head installed 78 inches above. A 5'4" person would have a shower head installed 72 inches above.
The bath tub:
- The bath tub should have a space of 30 to 32 inches wide and around 60 or 72 inches long.
- There should be a clearance space of 30 inches in front of the bath tub.
Toilet:
- there should be a clearance of around 36 times 36 inches in front of the toilet.
- There should be 16 inches from the centre of the fixture to an adjacent wall or fixture.
- Make sure that the enclosure for the toilet measures at least 36 inches wide and 66 inches deep.
Sink:
- There should be at least 30 times 48 inches of clearence space in front of the sink.
- There should be 15 inches on the centre of the think to an adjacent wall of fixture.
